National Institute of Open Schooling– NIOS is the third-largest board after CBSE & ICSE. The board is 100% genuine and authentic. The board is well recognized by Ministry of HRD, govt. of India.

This is 100%, open board. Open board means a student does not get regular classes as in regular board. However weekly classes are available for the students via different study centres across the nation.

Aim of the Open Board

National Institute of open schooling was founded on 3rd November 1989 and its headquarter is in Noida currently. Before 2002 it was “National Open School” after 2002 it was renamed to National Institute of Open Schooling.

This board is an Initiative of MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development) of Union Government of India, with an aim to provide education to all with more flexibility. Open board allows students to study from home if they are unable to attend regular classes due to other obligations.

The students who are deprived of basic education up to Sr. Secondary are the prime focus for the board. NIOS provides following flexibilities which make this open board more worthy:-

Q. Which board follows Nios?

Ans. National Institute of Open Schooling is a Government of India initiative. Ministry of Human Resource and Development handle and monitor this board. This is fully government recognised open board for secondary & Sr. Secondary education.

Q. Is NIOS Degree Valid?

Ans. Yes Absolutely! National Institute of Open Schooling is under control of Center Government. It is a National Open board. Qualification or degree is 100% valid. The board was established by Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Q. Is Nios tougher than CBSE?

Ans. No’ this is neither tougher nor difficult than CBSE. You just need to focus on the study and you will get success. NIOS provides you support with study material, weekly classes and online video lectures and learning stuff.

Q. Can I do 12th again from Nios?

Ans. Yes! even if you are pass from other board and want to appear for 12th (Sr. Secondary) again, you may do so. Even you fail in any other board in Mar/April session, you can immediately apply and appear for NIOS October session exam. Also, you have the facility of On-Demand Examination here.

Q. Is NIOS Valid for Government Jobs?

Ans. A government job notification says that “Applicant who have 10th or 12th from Recognised board, can apply for the post”. And this is recognized, board. So, of course, this is valid for Government Jobs.

Q. Does University/Colleges accepts NIOS Marksheet?

Ans. A circular with notifying every University/College in India has been sent by the board. All Indian Universities and Colleges Accept open board mark-sheet for further education.

Q. Can I apply for MBBS after Open Board? Is NIOS valid for MBBS?

Ans. YES! MBBS applicants, need to clear NEET. And in a recent verdict, Delhi High Court allows NIOS Students who have not gone under classroom training to appear for NEET exams. NIOS qualification is valid and student can appear for NEET. If you clear the NEET (UG) Exam you can join MBBS.

Q. What is the passing marks out of 100 in Nios?

Ans. You must score a minimum of 33% out of 100 marks. In 10th class, you should clear all 6 subjects however 12th class students need to clear minimum 5 subjects with 33% marks, and if one is failed in any 6th subject then also eligible for pass certification.

Ans. Most of students mistakes that IGNOU and NIOS are the same. but this is incorrect. Actually, both are totally different. Ignou is an Open University offers Degree diploma and vocational courses under distance learning mode. Where this board offers 10th & 12th qualification through distance education mode. In one term both are similar, that is- Both provides education via distance learning mode.

Q. Can I Do BSC from NIOS?

Ans. No! NIOS does not offer any undergraduate or postgraduate degree course. However, after complete 12th from Open board, you may apply for BSc. from any University or College in India or overseas.
